ENT

For those of you that know (and love) my Aubree Cate, understand that she has an unmistakable voice. Pretty much since she has begun to talk, it has had a deep, raspy quality. However, her voice quality has become progressively worse within the past several months. It isn't hard to notice since she uses it non stop.....seriously, non stop.
I wasn't sure if she did have nodules on her vocal folds or possibly allergies irritating her voice. Last Thursday I took her to Dr. Poole in Savannah to have her checked out. He said in a child that age, it could be (unknown) reflux irritating them or ABUSE :) He asked me if she was a big talker and often loud.....huh? *Laugh*
He decided to put a scope down her nose to look at them. I'm out of the loop, because I had no idea it would be that simple...relatively speaking. All it took was the Dr. squirting the numbing drops in her nose for her to go ballistic! Anyway, the nurse wrestled her while Dr. Poole fed the tub and watched the T.V. screen for the results. Sidenote: I haven't seen a set of vocal folds since I was in college...unfortunately, the next time I saw them had to be on my child, but I was excited to be able to watch!! I really wanted to take a picture of them........but.....she really couldn't have protested any louder, but still. :)
In the end, there was no overall redness which would have shown reflux signs, but there was a knot on each one indicative of "vocal strain".

Of course, I can't put my two-year-old on vocal rest which is the common medicine for nodules. I asked what I needed to do, and he said it would have to work itself out with age when she begins to talk less and get "less loud". I can't imagine a world where either of those are possible with her! :) She did calm down fairly quickly when Dr. Poole passed a sucker in her direction, but I did not have to ask her twice to leave!
She spotted our car and was full speed ahead!

After we loaded up, she ditched the shoes and bow, and I took my girl and her signature voice to Sonic before heading back home. I had a storage container in my car, so I degermed it and it made the perfect tray for her chicken and fries.

There will be TONS of stories to tell this kid of mine one day, but hopefully, she will know that I wouldn't change one thing about her!! Aubree is truly one-of-a-kind, and I couldn't imagine her any other way!!!

Cool Treat!

Al told Colby earlier in the afternoon they could go for an ice cream at the DQ if they ate their supper tonight. He should have saved that line for a meat and vegetable night, because they were eating chicken nuggets from McDonald's, so clearing the plate isn't usually a problem! Anyway, when it came time to go, Colby decided he would wait for his Oreo Blizzard to be delivered, because he had lots of T.V. to catch up on! Even continuing with the T.V program while he eats his treat. That's my boy!

Our well-mannered Aubree Cate wanted to ride to get the ice cream. So when she came home, I walked in the kitchen and asked, "Where is your ice cream????"
Obviously, she had the Oreo Blizzard too, and she scarfed it down before she even made it back home!!!! And that....is my girl!!

As the days go by...

Aubree grows up more and more!!! She becomes increasingly independent with every day. Now that she is toilet trained, she has begun to go to the bathroom, at times, without telling me and does the whole process on her own....even washing/drying hands.

Now that we've started using the shower hose in our bath for Aubree to take a shower, she fights to bathe on her own. After I wash her hair, she washes her hair. Now, she wants to completely bathe on her own, but we have come to the understanding that I do it first, and then she can wash.

It is so funny to watch, because she does a really good job! I remind her of the places to scrub and with that....she basically washes her entire body :) I love having a boy and a girl.....it is amazing to see the difference in male vs. female.
One more ear wash before getting out....no one likes a kid with dirty ears!!
"Hey, baby".... Squeaky clean Aubree had to get back to check on her baby :)

Two FIRSTS!

Colby started his FIRST day of FIRST grade on Tuesday!
He was excited about being in first grade and having Mrs. Calysta DeLoach....not so excited that he is right next door to his Tia!!! He told Tammy during Sunday School that he needed to be in the class down the hall, so she couldn't check on him! :) Maybe that will be an incentive to be good! Colby was particularly excited about having a brand new book bag this year! I was a frugal mama and wouldn't let him have a new one for his kindergarten year. I love the Lands' End book bags, but they are quite pricey... and since it still looked brand new after Pre-K, he had to use it again :)

Looks like a first grade smile to me!!

I hear people say it all the time, but time really does fly! I'm a Tay-Tay to a second and third grader..OMGoodness. What's even more amazing is the boy I used to take to a babysitter every morning is now in FIRST grade! More than anything, I want him to love school and love learning!

This was Colby on his first day of kindergarten last year...
